Bellville alive with the sounds of music

03 October 2023

Sponsored by the City of Cape Town, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, held a concert on the greens at the Bellville Golf Club this weekend.

The concert, presented by the Welgemoed CID,  was a fundraiser for several beneficiaries such as the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO).

Chad Hendricks was on the podium, and the orchestra played a selection of light classics and popular works from Abba on Broadway and Star Wars, to a movement from Mozart's 'Out of Africa' Clarinet Concerto with the CPO's principal clarinet Férrol-Jon Davids.

The CID supports a number of organisations, apart from the CPYO, and some of these beneficiaries include renosterveld rehabilitation and parks upgrades, the Alta du Toit Aftercare Centre which provides residential care and occupation for adults with intellectual disabilities, Huis Jabes which is a safe house for abused women and Magdalena House, which provides parenting support and training for underprivileged mothers.

'This is the second concert in the north after one in the rose garden in Durbanville earlier this year. We are proud to sponsor the concerts which enables many residents to experience the beauty and wonder of the orchestra. In addition, the funds go to worthy causes and we are grateful to the CID and the CPO for supporting these organisations,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Patricia van der Ross.

Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Councillor Ronel Viljoen attended the concert.

'It was wonderful to have the concert in Welgemoed. It was a huge success and I hope it is the beginning of a tradition in the area. The City supports arts and cultural events across the city and I am glad we made this event possible,' said Councillor Viljoen.
